Forged Steel

I didn't start taking and keeping photos of forge work right away.

My first year was spent on an old and rickety homemade bench and forge.
The work showed that the right tools weren't being used, and the skill wasn't there.
The next two years were spent training on the basics, and building up my forge.

I've since invested in better tools, mounted more lights, and built a proper bench.
Making more things has also allowed me to learn what I like forging so far.

Now I'm going to start keeping photos of work here, to see them over time.
I'd like to look back in some years, and see an increase in craftsmanship.

Rebuilding a Forge

Rebuild photolog for a Champion crank-blower forge from Lancaster, PA

When this forge was found it was rusted so badly the crank wouldn't turn.
Now it glides smoothly, and continues to run two+ spins after handle release.

Every gear, screw, and nut on the assembly is original and was polished by hand.
Even the decayed leather washer was remade and refit around the worm gear.

This is one of the coolest things I've ever brought back from the brink!

Hannah was a fellow vendor at the "re:Craft and Relic" show, and agreed to turn her camera skills onto the forge. We had a great afternoon with her and her fella, and she took some fine photographs.
